Zeb's Quick Tips

1.Grip:

When a student complains about a sudden loss of distance, more times than not, the problem is a grip that has become too weak. A weak grip almost always results in an open clubface at impact.

Check to make sure you can see AT LEAST TWO knuckles on the hand that is closest to your body. Don.t worry if you can see three, a strong grip is much better than a weak one especially for women and seniors.

2.Alignment:

It never ceases to amaze me on how much time PGA Tour players put into practicing their setup. Though Jack Nicklaus did say ninety percent of all his swing problems came back to set-up.

To ensure you have proper alignment, while hitting practice balls lay 2 clubs down on the ground. Place the two clubs parallel to each other. The outside club needs to be pointed directly at your target and the one closest to you just needs to be parallel to the one pointed at the target (see illustration). Place the ball between the two clubs. The outside club is for clubface alignment and the inside club for body alignment: your shoulders, hips, knees, and feet must be parallel to the clubs. Consistently practicing alignment will teach ultimate target awareness.
